Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer Speaks at NJAA Annual Membership Meeting

On Wednesday, January 23rd, Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex) spoke to over 200 members of the New Jersey Apartment Association (NJAA) at the organization’s annual membership meeting. NJAA’s president, Brent Kohere of Home Properties, also gave his mid-term, State of the Association address at the event which took place at The Imperia in Somerset.

Assemblywoman Spencer, chair of the Assembly Environment & Solid Waste Committee, and NJAA's Housing Champion – 2012, stressed the importance of keeping multi-family communities safe, clean and a place that people don’t just live in, but are proud to call “home.” She also invited members to reach out to her with issues relevant to the housing community because, although her seat is in Newark, she considers herself a representative of all 7.5 million residents of New Jersey.

Mr. Kohere highlighted NJAA’s 2012 accomplishments including the addition of over 100 new members, and an increase in the number of apartment units they represent to more than 170,000.  He also emphasized that participation at events and educational programs was up and reiterated the challenge from his inauguration in 2012 for members to get involved and invite others to join them.

“We are honored that Assemblywoman Spencer spoke at our annual meeting,” said Jean Maddalon, executive director for the NJAA. “Her remarks were especially helpful in reinforcing the NJAA’s own message, that active engagement with Legislative leaders on multi-family issues is the responsibility of our entire industry, from the statewide association level right down to the hundreds of NJAA members at the local level.”
