Susan Weston, The Susan Weston Company

Susan has operated The Susan Weston Company since 2010 and consults and trains in the multifamily industry.  Her industry career spans over 40 years in executive capacities in Operations, Human Resources and Learning and Development at both publicly traded and private companies. She is a Certified Apartment Manager, a Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor, a Subject Matter Expert for the National Apartment Association Education Institute credential programs, a member of NAAEI Senior Faculty and a licensed Texas real estate broker. From 2012-2016, Susan taught residential property management programs in the School of Business at the University of North Texas. In April of 2016 she was invited to serve on the National Council for the School of Business at Valparaiso University.  In April 2019 she accepted the chairmanship for the Valparaiso University President’s Circle. In Spring 2020, Susan helped to write and launch the virtual delivery of NAAEI credential programs – NALP, CAM and CAPS.

Mr. Reed has extensive experience in complex commercial and real estate litigation, including landlord/tenant matters, Fair Housing Act (“FHA”) and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (“NJLAD”) issues, rent control matters, as well as negotiating and securing short term and long tax abatements for clients in New Jersey. He has appeared in numerous cases venued in the state courts of New Jersey and New York, along with the United States District Court, District of New Jersey and in the Eastern and Southern District Courts of New York.

Mr. Reed also handles matters in the New Jersey Office of Administrative Law regarding challenges to violations of the New Jersey Hotel and Multiple Dwelling Law cited by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (“DCA”) and has successfully represented and advised numerous property owners, developers and management companies regarding negotiation of these penalties and abatement of violations. His administrative experience also extends to defending property owners in actions brought by the New Jersey Department on Civil Rights for alleged violations of the Fair Housing Act (“FHA”) and New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (“NJLAD”).

Mr. Reed’s deep involvement in the real estate industry also includes being President of the New Jersey Property Owner’s Association, counsel to the Newark Apartment Owners Association (NAOA) and a Board Member for the New Jersey Apartment Association’s Political Action Committee.

Additionally, Mr. Reed served as an instructor with the Rutgers University School of Continuing Legal Education for the past ten years, lecturing on trial testimony and administrative procedure. He has also lectured extensively on various aspects of owning and managing multi-family real estate in New Jersey, including commercial and residential leasing, the New Jersey Fair Housing Act, New Jersey Security Deposit Act, Abandoned Property Statute and various nuances of the New Jersey Anti-Eviction Act and Summary Dispossess Act.

Alexandra (Alex) is the Chief Operating Officer at HGPS and in that capacity, she manages and oversees all corporate and property operations. Additionally, she is part of the leadership team responsible for the long-term growth and strategic direction of the company. Prior to joining HGPS, Alex worked at an executive leadership level for several privately held regional companies as well as large publicly traded investment management firms. She has experience managing LIHTC and HUD-regulated properties, purpose-built student housing, manufactured housing, conventional market-rate properties, full-service retirement communities and nursing homes. Her experience includes all aspects of property and asset management, marketing, training, consulting, troubled property turnarounds, receiverships, and new business development.

Active in professional organizations, Alex served as Chairman of the Board of the National Apartment Association (NAA) in 2013 and President of the NAA Education Institute in 2008/2009. She is Past Chair of the Residential Property Management Advisory Board at Virginia Tech and Past President of the Ball State University Residential Property Management Advisory Board.

Alex is a respected industry speaker and has presented programs to industry trade groups throughout the U.S. and Canada. She is a licensed real estate broker and holds the following industry designations: Certified Property Manager (CPM®), Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS), and Certified Credit Compliance Professional (C3P).

She received the NAAEI Apartment Career and Education (ACE) Award in 2011 in recognition of her commitment to training industry professionals. In 2012 Real Estate Forum Magazine named Alex a “Woman of Influence in Real Estate” and in 2013 the Institute of Real Estate Management named her as one of the “Women Changing the Face of Property Management.” She was honored in 2015 as a “Woman of Influence” by the Indianapolis Business Journal and she was inducted into National Apartment Association Hall of Fame in 2018. Alex is a graduate of the University of Rochester and received her M. Ed. from Ohio University.
