Implementing Criminal Background Screening Law: Have Your Questions About the Fair Chance in Housing Act Answered!

In November 2021, NJAA hosted a comprehensive class regarding the new Fair Chance in Housing Act which regulates criminal background screening of residential apartment applicants. At that time, the regulations for this law had been proposed, but had yet to be adopted. The law took effect on January 1, 2022, and final regulations were adopted on January 3, 2022.

This law, and the accompanying regulations are extremely complicated. For property owners, making the wrong decision can not only result in monetary penalties, but it can also negatively impact the reputation of your company for years to come. In an effort to help housing providers protect their companies, assist with ongoing implementation questions, and provide additional guidance, NJAA is hosting another Fair Chance in Housing seminar.

Join us for this NEW informational seminar, which is the second class in our series, which will build upon the knowledge you gained in our last seminar, or if you missed our last seminar, get up to speed on everything you need to know to comply with this complex and complicated law. This new course will focus on an overview of the law, the new regulations, best practices, and implementation requirements.

Our goal at NJAA is to help you better understand the evolving legal landscape surrounding this law, answer your questions and avoid costly penalties
